City of WL extremely behind on their New Website

Earlier today - I received the following comment, with regard to the City of Williams Lake's new website and use of Social Media Tools (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube).  Please note the social media tools are scheduled to come "online" whenever the City's new website goes "live":

Now a Communications Coordinator was hired and the a Social Media policy was passed yet no social media is in place that I can find. The new website was to go live in March, then May, the June and now it is August

I must admit that I have to agree with the commentor.  The City has changed its' website deadline on four different ocassions and surely there was some thought into how the project should be proceed with one deadline, rather than four.  It should be noted as well that a Committee of Staff was used for this project, rather than (in my opinion) a Joint Committee of Staff/Elected Officials and had the Joint Committee process been used, it is my opinion that the new website would have been "live" by now, in addtion to the Social Media tools being active

I now fear that the website will not be "live" until well into the fall and even the end of the year, which is why the next WL City Council should require projects had actual deadlines so that mistakes like these don't occur into the future

In addtion - the City has failed in ensuring, in my opinion, when meetings like Committee of the Whole & Central Cariboo Joint Committee are cancelled or postponed to another date or even uploading of the Agendas in question.  Local governments must ensure that its' citizens know exactly what they are doing and why they are doing it.  In essence, local governments should have as few secrets as possible.  This is something the next WL Council will want to consider ASAP after their election on November 19th
