CRD''s Deputy CAO receives "Top in Technology" Award

From the Cariboo Regional District:

Editor's Note - I wish to pass along my personal congrats to Rick Hodgson for winning this award in honour of his public service.  He is a great public servant and I look forward to his continued service to the people of the Cariboo-Chilcotin

In a presentation ceremony held today, Mr. Rick Hodgson, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of the Cariboo Regional District was awarded with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) Association’s “Top in Technology” award.

“We were pleased to learn that Mr. Hodgson earned the Top In Technology Award,” stated Janis Bell, Chief Administrative Officer. “We are very proud of our staff and the accomplishments and acknowledgments we receive about them. It is also nice to see Mr. Hodgson recognized by his peers for his years of dedicated service to the public sector.”

In 2007, Rick Hodgson was named to the position of Deputy Chief Administrative Officer. Previously, he was CRD’s Chief Building Inspector since 1988 after spending time with the City of Kamloops as an Engineering Technician, and Building Inspector/Plans Examiner. Hodgson earned ASTTBC’s Certified Technician’s (CTech) designation in 2004 and in 2007 was the first Building Official in British Columbia to achieve National level certification through the Alliance of Building Officials Associations.

The purpose of the award is to recognize an ASTTBC member who represents a model technology professional. The award is presented annually to an ASTTBC member who has demonstrated qualifications consistent with the high expectations of a BC professional committed to serving the public and acting as a role model to other British Columbians.

“Rick Hodgson has an enviable record of service to BC spanning about thirty years,” stated John Leech, Executive Director of ASTTBC. “At every step of his career Rick has taken on increasingly challenging positions, and given volunteer service to several professional associations. This glowing record brought Rick to the attention of our nominating committee. He’s been a model representative in this community of our 10,000 members. We’re honoured to recognize and celebrate his ongoing professional leadership as an ASTTBC Certified Technician.”

Why does the CRD need a deputy CAO? Talk about government waste. The city doesn't have one. and the city one is paid less than Bell at the CRD.

Thanks for your comment

I would point out however that while true - the City of WL does not have an official position of "Deputy CAO", it is a "de-facto" Deputy CAO position in Geoff Goodall's role as "General Manager of Planning and Operations". It is certainly time for the City of WL and the CRD to look seriously at its' senior managers and see if there is a way to consolidate or even eliminate senior managers - both at the City of WL and CRD
