A flood watch has been issued by the BC River Forecast Centre for rivers in northeastern B.C., including the Fraser River, due to heavy precipitation in the upper Fraser watershed. The five-day river level forecast calls for rapid rises in water levels on the Fraser.

The City of Quesnel (City) checks the river level on a regular basis while monitoring infrastructure such as roads, trails, and storm, water and sewer lines to ensure public safety.

The City requests that residents stay away from the banks of the Quesnel and Fraser Rivers as well as Baker Creek. The slopes can become very slippery during high water incidents. That combined with fast-moving water creates a safety issue. People are urged to keep careful watch over children and pets as well.

High water flows are expected to continue over at least the next two to three weeks as the snowpack continues to melt.

The City may need to place safety barriers along portions of the Riverfront Trail or roadways; the public is asked to respect those barriers.
