City of Quesnel names New City Manager

Quesnel City Council has named John Stecyk as the new city manager, effective Tuesday, January 4th, 2011.

Stecyk's background in public administration is extensive, and includes such roles as: Deputy Minister of Infrastructure for the Yukon Government; Assistant Deputy Minister, Government Services for the Government of Saskatchewan; Superintendent for Regina Public Schools; and, most recently, as a Regional Engineer and Construction Project Leader for the Government of Canada.

Stecyk's responsibilities have spanned a wide range of managerial duties, including finance, budgeting, administration, human resources, strategic planning, and policy and staff development.

"Council was impressed by John's managerial skills, his past experience and his extensive intergovernmental abilities and knowledge," said Mayor Mary Sjostrom. "We're looking forward to his arrival in January as he begins to work with Council and staff as we set our future for the City of Quesnel."

"My family and I very much look forward to coming to Quesnel, meeting people and becoming part of this community," added Stecyk, who is relocating from Chilliwack.

Jack Marsh, the interim City Manager, plans to return to his former role as Director of Public Works.
