This past Saturday - about 60,000 BC Liberal Party members' gave Christy Clark a mandate to be Leader of the BC Liberals' and to be the 35th Premier of British Columbia
Since then - the opposition New Democrats have been less than kind to Ms. Clark congratulating her on her win and the provincial media have asked her personal questions that would not be put if it was a male candidate who won. In a interesting debate yesterday on the Twitter universe, it was agreed that asking Christy Clark questions about politics and related matters are ok and appropriate but anything of a personal nature was inappropriate and "hands off". Is it any wonder why females hesitate as to seek federal or provincial political offices (ie - MLA/MP). As well - the BC Conservatives got in on the act suggesting that Clark's win was a "win" for them. I think over time, that will not change and the BC Liberal "coalition" will hold. Enough to win a 4th mandate - depends on who the NDP elect as their Leader - if Mike Farnworth wins, they (BC NDP) could give us BC Liberals' a run for our money, if Adrian Dix wins - the BC Liberals should have little problem getting a 4th term as he is about as far left as you can get in our political system - everything should be public and the private sector is bad for society, etc. Let us all (media, opposition politicians, etc) ask our politicians, both male/female, appropriate and fair political questions and leave personal ones out of societal debates. Failure to do this will show "American" politics in Canada and most voters' dislike how some Americans conduct their political campaigns where any question, personal or not, is fair game
In the meantime - me and my fellow BC Liberals will do everything possible to line up behind our new Leader and give Christy Clark as smooth of a political ride as possible and what we'll see what the political future brings in terms of new Leaders' in the BC Conservatives and BC NDP
