City of WL Public Consultation Meeting on Shipping Containers next week

The City of Williams Lake will hold public consultation sessions May 12 and May 19 to discuss regulating the use of metal shipping containers within City limits.

The sessions, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, will provide an opportunity for property owners to learn about and provide input to proposed amendments to Zoning Bylaw No. 1825 with regards to the use of metal shipping containers in residential, commercial, and industrial zones.

The proposed amendments will allow shipping containers on residential property on a temporary basis only, and will require a permit. Commercial and industrial properties would be permitted to have the containers on a temporary or permanent basis, but they must be screened from view in the case of a permanent container.

“Consultation is crucial any time the City looks at changing a bylaw,” says Senior Bylaw Officer Brad McRae. “I encourage everyone with an interest to attend and offer their input.”
