After the local Board of Education made the decision to shut down 4 schools (Glendale/Kwaleen Elementary in WL and Buffalo Crk/100 Mile Jr Secondary in 100 Mile House) and disappointing parents at these schools, SD #27 Trustees have now decided to go against School District staff advice to make Columneetza a Grade 7-9 school and WL Jr Secondary a Grade 10-12 school
Read the Trustees rationale for this decision here
The Board, at a Special Meeting Tuesday, heard from teachers/parents on why Columneetza should remain 10-12 and WL Jr Secondary 7-9. The Board agreed to issue a press release to explain their decision (as referenced above). One parent - Fred Stafford - asked the Board to be 'open and transparent' as to the reasons why they made their decision and what had SD #27 Staff actually recommended
I, for one, agree with Mr. Stafford. It is very disappointing that the Board did not do the right thing by going before local media and explaining themselves why they felt the need to overrule SD #27 Staff, as to grade configuration for Columneetza/WL Jr Secondary.
I now wonder if any of the SD #27 Board can survive re-election next year... (Oct 2014)
