Williams Lake Incumbent Councillor, Laurie Walters, announced her intention to seek a third term on Williams Lake City Council.
Laurie was first elected to City Council in 2008 and again in 2011. Her ongoing desire to serve on Williams Lake City Council is driven by her deep roots in the community and her commitment to carry out important community projects.\
In regards to her decision to run for a third term in office, Walters states; “I love Williams Lake and I love my job as a city councillor; I put my heart into it and take my job as City Councillor very seriously. There are a lot of great initiatives that this council is currently working on and I want to be around the table over the next four years to see these initiatives and new projects through.”
One of the most important things I’ve learned in the past six years is the value of policy and process in municipal government. It’s what ensures the decision making process is effective and results oriented.”
Walters brings a visionary perspective to the table and is enthusiastic about proper, long-term, planning for the city. She notes, “We are living in a world of transition and Williams Lake is going through a major shift in our lumber and mining industries. Moving forward, we need to be prepared for this shift and look towards other important cogs in the wheel such as tourism which brings new sources of revenue into our community and supports a multitude of local businesses. Additionally, I am determined to continue to work with the BIA to further enhance Williams Lake's downtown as the heart of our community. These initiatives will draw people to live and invest in our city”.
“I think regionally because I believe that if our region is working together this brings benefits to our city. As a result, I am connected provincially, relationships that can only be developed over time and which provide a network of resources outside of our community’s limitations.”
Throughout her tenure on City Council, Walter’s has developed a proven track record. She holds the position of Chair of the Community Services. She held the position of Co-Chair for the Pool Task force committee and currently is an active member on the communications Working group for the pool referendum with a goal to ensure the right information is available and getting out to citizens so that they can make an informed decision about the future of the Sam Ketcham pool when going to the polls on Nov 15th.
