High temperatures lead to angling closure on Horsefly River

Courtesy of the Government of BC:

The Province is temporarily closing all angling on the Horsefly River from Quesnel Lake to the Woodjam Bridge, to help protect rainbow trout from health risks associated with rising water temperatures.

The closure will be in effect from Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, until further notice.

When water temperatures rise above 18 C, the mortality of catch-and-release rainbow trout increases.

Water temperatures downstream of Woodjam Bridge currently vary from approximately 19 C to 23 C.

The river will be monitored closely by ministry officials and reopened when conditions return to acceptable levels.
