The BC Spirit Square capital funding program which was announced by the provincial government was implemented to fund well-designed and optimally-located squares, parks, and plazas that enhance the social, cultural, and economic life of the community and build on its distinctive history and natural features. A total of $190,000 was provided by the BC Spirit Square program to complete this project. Spirit Square, formerly Courthouse Square, was completed this summer, and involved a number of contractors who were responsible for both the design and construction, including Van Der Zalm & Associates, RB Backhoe Service, Mackay Electrical, Renegade Irrigation, Cariboo Curb & Gutter, Hoelzler Construction, L.A. Fence N’ Gate and Block R' Us.

Funding for the Central Cariboo Arts Centre was provided through the Towns for Tomorrow (TfT) program which came about as a result of a commitment on the part of all levels of government to accelerate the disbursement of infrastructure funding to stimulate the economy and meet the needs of communities. $150,000 was provided by the TfT program and $50,000 was provided by the Arts and Culture Function of the Cariboo Regional District. The majority of the project was completed mid-summer by Sprucelee Construction and since then several non-profit organizations have begun to occupy the building. Sprucelee Construction was the project manager for this project which also employed many local sub-trades.

A public grand opening and open house for the Central Cariboo Arts Centre will be held in the coming months.
