The Williams Lake Film Club, and the Cariboo Regional District Library will be hosting an evening with author Paul St. Pierre on Friday, September 16, 2011, to celebrate his work. The evening will include a presentation by the renowned author, along with clips of his favourite episodes from the 1960s CBC television series “Cariboo Country”. The event starts at 7:00 p.m in the Gibraltar Room at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex
Paul St. Pierre has been working as a journalist and author
in British Columbia for many years. He was the Member of Parliament for the
riding of Coast Chilcotin from 1968-1972. St. Pierre was one of the
"flying MPs" whose ridings spanned an area similar in size to some
European countries. Once he became this area's representative, he moved to the
Chilcotin and fell in love with it.
St. Pierre is best known for his popular fiction recounting
adventures and quirks of life in the Cariboo Chilcotin. He has published seven
books of the cowboy genre, and documented the lives of individuals and legends
as well as the natural history of the region. His books are recognized as
classics in Canadian literature; grasping the essence of life in the Cariboo
Chilcotin.
Cariboo GM is the proud sponsor of this event with the
master of ceremonies for the evening being their Sales Manager, Lorne
Doerksen. CRD Chair Al Richmond and City of Williams Lake Mayor Kerry
Cook will be making special presentations to St. Pierre during the evening.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the door. Doors
open at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Cariboo
Regional District Library and to the Williams Lake Chapter for Students with
Learning Disabilities.
