Today - the 2016 Convention of the Federation of Canadian Muncipalities or FCM starts in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Convention is a 4 day event covering a multitude of topics for both urban and rural local governments across Canada. During the convention, as takes place at NCLGA/UBCM, there will be a trade show, multiple opportunities for networking among elected officials and a variety of workshops to pique the interest of FCM Delegates
Delegates can also look forward to hearing from the Prime Minister of Canada - Justin Trudeau, the Leader of the Federal Green Party - Elizabeth May, Federal Conservative critic for Infrastructure, Surrey-White Rock MP Dianne Watts and Tom Mulcair, Federal NDP Leader. There will also be the usual Resolutions Debate on FCM Resolutions including debating a Resolution on Orange Shirt Day. You can view the full FCM 2016 Convention Agenda here
In terms of local elected officials attending - to the best of my knowledge, only Cariboo Regional District Electoral Area 'F' Director Joan Sorley and Cariboo Regional District Electoral Area 'H' Director Margo Wagner are attending from this Region. In addition, it is my understanding that CRD Chair Al Richmond is also attending, in his capacity as President of the Union of BC Municipalities
I look forward to hearing about their experiences at the 2016 FCM Convention upon their return next week
