Pile Burning in the #Quesnel area

Courtesy of the BC Wildfire Service:

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations plans to burn piles of woody debris west of Quesnel to further reduce wildfire risk in the area.

Burning will take place as early as Thursday, July 16, near the junction of Marsh Road and Abbott Drive. Smoke from the piles may be visible in Quesnel and surrounding communities. Burning will continue as weather permits until no piles remain, with a final deadline of October 31, 2020.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development began this fuel management project earlier this spring. Burning these piles of debris will eliminate available fuels in the area in the event of a wildfire.

The BC Wildfire Service will assist by burning these piles, all burning activities will be in compliance with current open burning restrictions within the Cariboo Fire Centre. In order to minimize the amount of smoke generated, these piles will only be lit if conditions are suitable and allow for quick smoke dissipation.
