Council's Strategic Plan
On February 2, 2025 Quesnel City Council held a closed strategic planning session to outline their priorities and goals for the remainder of their term on Council. The strategic plan will be released to the public and posted on the City website.
Committees
Financial Sustainability & Audit Committee:
- Reviewing the 2025 Operating Budget to find any potential efficiencies to lessen the burden on rate payers. The budget will come to the March 4 Council meeting for public input and Council consideration.
- Council approved Quesnel Search & Rescue's request to raise their annual contribution from $14,750 to $17,950.
- Council approved the recommendation to reissue a Request for Proposals for City Property on Neighbour Road to facilitate a multi-housing development.
The Committee identified 2025 priorities:
- Enhanced Accessibility in public washrooms
- SPARC BC – Accessibility and Inclusion Awareness
- Snow removal and access to laneways and transit
- Transit and HandyDART priority seating, wheelchair access, and walker access
- External grant funding options – enhancing accessibility to businesses
Agreements
Council approved the following:
- Three Rivers Community Forest office lease - 2nd floor, City Hall.
- Quesnel Tumbling Rivers Rock Club lease - Upper floor, Field House, West Fraser Timber Park
- Reciprocal Building Inspection Services - Cariboo Regional District
North South Interconnector
Council has identified the Interconnector as a high priority to divert transportation of dangerous good from our downtown core and, to improve and strengthen the essential provincial trade route to all points north.
With this in mind, Council approved up to $25,000 from the 2025 Council Initiatives budget to hire consultants to complete an assessment of provincial benefits of the Highway 97 Interconnector project in Quesnel, to lobby the Provincial government for commitment and funding.
Facade Improvement
The City received notice from Northern Development Initiative Trust that the Façade Improvement Program will receive up to $20,000 for the 2025 program. Submissions are due by May 30, 2025.
Staff confirmed the 2024 Façade Improvement Program was successful with four businesses benefitting from utilizing the majority of the $20,000 funds available.

Announcements
- February 7 - 9, 2025 - 33rd Gold Rush Trail Sled Dog Mail Run - Sled dog teams travel wilderness trails between Quesnel, Wells & Barkerville over three days, carrying commemorative envelopes. (2025 envelope below)
