The City of Williams Lake Council is being asked for approval for what is described as "sole-source" awarding of a contract to complete the fire department's "Pre-Incident Planning Project". Apparently it was identified in the 2017 Fire Underwriters report as a shortfall and it looks like $20,000 was put aside to establish a project fund in 2019. The current fire chief wants to hire the old fire chief because he is the only source that exists that can undertake this project. Come on off it. If Randy Isfeld didn't identify that the department needed this planning in his 37 years moving up the ladder, why is he the only candidate that can put it in place now? Wouldn't Des Webster be equally qualified with more recent experience with the department? What other companies have done the same planning for other municipalities so already know the programs and software and could provide their experience and expertise gained plus a fresh approach and ideas? Added bonus: their relationship would be arm’s length. Randy Isfeld’s relationship is too close to get the best results: nice guy; but most qualified? I think not! Councillors, look at this closely; justification used for hiring the old fire chief is pathetic. The only certainty in hiring Randy to do this work is that nobody’s feathers will get ruffled and nobody’s toes will get stepped on. Biggest reason for hiring him: He just happens to be connected and part of the local old boys’ club. And, as always, Williams Lake taxpayers will be the losers. Move this back to the drawing board and find the best company for the money.

Another $10,000.00 in legal fees, too. Who's controlling the spending here? Are lawyers running the city again, as in the Kerry Cook era? Or is the over paid CAO in over his head? Appears to be both.
