Evacuation Order Partially Lifted at Green Acres Mobile Home Park

The City of Williams Lake has partially lifted an evacuation order for residents living in four properties at the Green Acres Mobile Home Park in Williams Lake as of noon today, October 23, 2021.

 

Preliminary results from a geotechnical report received by the City analyzing land slippage near the mobile home park, located at Mackenzie Avenue North and Frizzi Road, confirms that the residents of those properties may now return to their homes. 

 

Two properties currently remain under evacuation order, and require further remedial works. The remainder of the Park has been downgraded to an evacuation alert.

 

The City of Williams Lake activated its Emergency Operations Centre and declared a State of Local Emergency on September 28, 2021 at a level 2 after becoming aware of the land slippage. At that time, the City also issued an evacuation alert for an area in the vicinity of the slide area as a precautionary measure. On September 29th, six properties were placed under evacuation order.

 

Emergency Support Services has ensured displaced residents are provided with lodging and food; at this time it will continue to assist residents from the two properties still on evacuation order.

 

Repairs to the exposed sanitary sewer main will begin early next week. 

 

The City will continue to work with residents placed under evacuation order and will provide updates as the situation evolves.

Evacuation Order issued for Some Residents of Green Acres Trailer Park in Williams Lake

On September 28, 2021, the City of Williams Lake activated its Emergency Operations Centre at Level 2 in response to land slippage in the vicinity of Frizzi Road and North Mackenzie Avenue. The slide exposed a section of sanitary main and a manhole, which are of imminent concern.

Following a geotechnical evaluation, effective immediately, an evacuation order has been issued for six properties in Green Acres Mobile Home Park. All occupants of those properties are required to leave immediately. The remainder of the Park remains on alert, and residents are cautioned to remain at least 15 metres away from the crest of the slope in the area under evacuation order.

 Affected residents should:

 

• Self-register for Evacuee Registration and Assistance at https://ess.gov.bc.ca/ or call the Emergency Support Services number at 250-267-4861
• Arrange a meeting place for themselves and their family
• Write down important numbers 
• Pack a grab-and-go bag for one week including: clothes, medications, personal items, eyeglasses, credit cards and cash, important documents including photo ID, insurance documents, keepsakes, pet supplies (leashes, kennels, food), books and games and chargers for phones/electronics 
• Make arrangements for pets and livestock. Pets cannot be le locked in house or yard 
• Check on neighbours to ensure they are ready as well
• If evacuated, do not shut off natural gas.
