Yesterday, the Rush/Wolf reported that a small protest group showed up to an event during the NCLGA AGM held this past week. They were protesting Quesnel Council's recent decisions to approve 2 secondary suites in predominately single family home neighbourhoods
Ron Campbell, on behalf of the group, said if Affordable Housing was such a priority, why the focus on the North Cariboo Multi-centre? For her part - Quesnel Mayor Mary Sjostrom said that affordable housing and the Multi-centre are part of that bigger picture called "Infrastructure"but admitted that Council may have to sit down with this group to figure out a solution that works for all parties involved
For myself - it's not often you hear that a local group shows up at a regional event to protest a decision of the local government. With a year to go before the 2014 Municipal elections - could the recently approved secondary suites or more broadly - the topic of Affordable Housing come in next year's local elections in Quesnel .... possible but I don't expect it to be a burning topic among Quesnel voters' in the fall of 2014, but time will tell
