B.C. Air Access Program Helps ‘Power’ South Cariboo Regional Airport

The B.C. Government is investing $26,250 in an improvement project at South Cariboo Regional Airport as part of B.C. on the Move, the Province’s new 10-year transportation plan.

The funding, awarded through the new B.C. Air Access Program, will assist with the purchase and installation of a new emergency generator.

“The South Cariboo Regional Airport connects the community to the provincial, national and international air transportation network, improving the potential for local economic development,” says Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett. “That’s why it’s so important that the airport has a reliable source of emergency alternate power, in case challenges ever occur.”

Through the B.C. Air Access Program, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure cost shares with public airports on projects such as lighting and navigational systems, terminal building expansion or upgrades, and runway improvements.

These types of projects allow airports to improve safety and accommodate larger aircraft and more frequent flights, supporting the continued growth of local and provincial economies. The program also encourages funding partnerships with the federal government, local and regional governments and agencies, and the private sector.

B.C. on the Move is investing $24 million over the next three years for the B.C. Air Access Program. This year’s funding allocation is approximately $6 million.
