This afternoon - due to the nearby Antler Creek wildfire -- the District of Wells and the Cariboo Regional District issued Evacuation ORDERS, as follows:

Meanwhile - the BC Wildfire Service provided an update on the Antler Creek wildfire as follows:
We continue to respond to the Antler Creek wildfire (C11303) located approximately 11 kilometres southeast of Barkerville Historic Town and Park and 12 kilometres southeast of the District of Wells. At this time the wildfire is estimated at 1,350 hectares in size and is displaying rank 4 and rank 5 fire behaviour. Smoke is highly visible from the District of Wells, Barkerville Historic Town and Park and surrounding areas. This wildfire is burning in steep, difficult terrain. Increased wind speeds this morning and early afternoon have created challenging conditions for BC Wildfire Service ground crews and aviation resources.
An evacuation alert was issued by the Cariboo Regional District and the District of Well this afternoon. BC Wildfire Service has made recommendations that that alert be upgraded to an order.
