Yesterday evening, the Rush filed a story saying that Quesnel Councillors L-A Roodenburg, Ed Coleman, Scott Elliot, Mike Cave and John Brisco are being personally sued for severance pay given to former Quesnel City Manager (CAO) John Stecyk. Only Quesnel Mayor Mary Sjostrom and Quesnel Councillor Sushil Thapar are not named in the lawsuit
The section of the Community Charter being used for this lawsuit is Section 191 as follows:
(1) A council member who votes for a bylaw or resolution authorizing the expenditure, investment or other use of money contrary to this Act or the Local Government Act is personally liable to the municipality for the amount
The petitioners say that because Stecyk quit rather than being fired - no severance is due to Mr. Stecyk
Meanwhile Quesnel's Mayor is taking the lawsuit personally and challenges the facts laid out in the lawsuit
This is the not the first time that Quesnel Councillors have been hauled into court over Quesnel Council proceedings. The last time this occurred was in 2003 over the Newman property situation which ultimately a Court ruled the City acted properly

Wonder why Sjostrom had to state she takes it personally. Its quite plain why the others would take it personally, and so to for Thapar since he supplied information to the action involved.
