Delegation - BC Transit
Representatives from BC Transit provided Council an overview of operations and, notification of service changes as a result of no expansion funding from the Province. These changes include:
- Schedule adjustments to improve reliability
- Route 2 - Cancellation of the Route 2 stop at Maple Park Mall
- Route 3 - Changes in downtown Quesnel and, only 'request service' to River Walk Park
BC Transit will support these changes with a media advisory and advertising campaign to ensure users are aware.
Future technology initiatives:
- On-board electronic fare collection system, to complement existing payment options.
- Next Ride - an app that riders can download and use to track their bus in real-time.
Delegation - North Cariboo Seniors' Council
President Fine provided an update to Council on NCSC's goals for enhancing seniors' services in our community; current programs, which include meals, snow removal, yard work and transit passes and partnership with Better at Home, whose services will soon expand to Wells, Nazko road, old PG highway, and south to Alexandria.
NCSC are seeking ongoing financial support, so they can plan programming in advance, rather than relying on grant opportunities.
Memorial Procession - Brian Morgan
Council approved closure of 100 - 300 block of Kinchant Street, from Carson Avenue to St. Laurent Avenue on Sunday, June 11, 2023 between 12:20 pm - 1:00 pm and 1:45 pm - 2:00 pm, for the Line of Duty death procession of Lieutenant Brian Morgan, who was an active volunteer firefighter for the Quesnel Fire Department and the City of Quesnel for 29 years from 1991 - 2020.
FireSmart Lynn Orstad Award
In memory of Lynn Orstad, FireSmart BC, created this award to recognize women in B.C. or Alberta who have contributed to furthering wildfire resiliency in their community, agency or province. The Lynn Orstad Award – Women in Wildfire Resiliency is an annual award honouring women who have made significant contributions in wildfire resilience and advocacy efforts. The 2023 recipients were the City of Quesnel Forestry Initiatives Manager Erin Robinson, City of Penticton Emergency Program Coordinator Brittany Seibert and FireSmart Program Advisor Deanne Suddaby.
