WL Council Meeting Highlights - October 5th

Present:

Mayor Cook and Councillors Barr, Bourdon, Rathor, Walters and Zacharias

Meeting called to order at 6:00pm
Meeting minutes of September 21st adopted

Delegations/Presentations:

1) Mayor Cook presented an Community Spirit Certificate to both Nancy Giesbrecht and Karen Roberts for the work they did to put on the Canada Day celebrations at Boitanio Park
2) Mayor Cook presented an “Accessibility Award” to Wal-Mart for their various accessibility features
3) Lisa Weget from the Punky Lake Wilderness Camp Society appeared before Council to give an overview on the programs & community services offered by the Society

Business:

1) Council adopted 3 Central Cariboo Joint Committee (City of WL-CRD) recommendations, as follows:

• 2011 Capital, Business and Financial Plans for the local Central Cariboo Recreation Function
• 2011 Business and Financial Plans for the local Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Function
• Advertising Signage Fees and Charges for the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex

2) Council accepted the Community Arts Council of Williams Lake's offer of the grand piano located in the Gibraltar Room to satisfy the outstanding Heritage House leasing debt owed to the City of Williams Lake. Councillor Rathor was opposed

3) Council gave 3 readings to Bylaw #2121 – 2011 Borrowing in anticipation of Property Tax Revenue
4) Council received for information a report from City Councillor Sue Zacharias concerned her attendance at the September 9th and 10th Living & Building with Wood-First Forum and also the Global Buyer's Mission Report
5) Council ratified their email poll of September 29th to approve the reallocation of $290,000 from the Cameron Street Reconstruction project to serve as the City's 1/3 share of a scope change to the Mackenzie Avenue Rehabilitation project grant in order to facilitate additional paving projects in the community
6) Council awarded the contract for the supply of dried bulk highway salt to Mainroad Maintenance Products Ltd. for the tendered price of $120.38 per metric tonne, based on a yearly consumption of 1,000 tonnes.
7) Council received for information the CRD Board Highlights from its’ September 17th, 2010 meeting
8) Council gave approval for the 2010 Annual Memory Tree Celebration on December 5, 2010 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at City Hall, with the event to be coordinated with City Staff and the Williams Lake Fire Department.
9) Council declared the month of October as “Foster Families” month in the City of Williams Lake

Council members’ then gave oral reports on issues/events occurring in the City
