City of WL drops the ball again!! on Regulatory Bylaws

In yesterday's Cariboo Advisor, guest editorialist Cheryl Engomoen bemoaned how the City handled the treatment of a stray dog.  I urge everyone to read this editorial as it was well written

Earlier today, I called Ms. Engomoen to explain the basis for writing the editorial and we had a good 20 minute conversation on it

The crux of the issue really is how the City is picking up stray dogs and what the City is doing after that.  The City should have engaged the public after giving 1st, 2nd and 3rd reading to Bylaw #2102 (New Animal Control Bylaw) which occured on August 11th of 2009.  But instead of adopting the bylaw on August 25th of 2009, it should have hosted a "Public Information" meeting on the bylaw, explain what the City of Williams Lake was hoping to achieve and be receptive to people's concerns on animal control and reflect those concerns in the bylaw.  I asked Councillor Rathor to ask City Staff to put a one-page explanation of Animal Control Bylaw #2102 for the public's information and instead the entire Bylaw was uploaded to the City's web page

This is now the third time that the City of Williams Lake Council has shoved a regulatory bylaw down the community's throat without adequate public consultation.  How many more regulatory bylaws will Council shove down the throats of the community before it realizes it needs to engage the public prior to adopting these kind of bylaws?

Pretty violent imagery Steven, sounds like you've been watching too much republican propogada (FOX).

Thanks for your comment but it was "a figure of speech", but my concern, I believe, is still valid. I still get people approaching me expressing misgivings on how Williams Lake Council handled public consultation on allowing a roadside cafe for the New World Cafe and this needs to be fixed to restore public confidence in WL Council's ability to consult the public in regards to Regulatory Bylaws. Also - I don't watch FOX News in the US. Have better TV channels to watch here in Canada

"ramming down the throats" is a direct quote from every fox news republican and Sarah Palin, maybe watching too much DAILY SHOW or COLBERT REPORT which could be understandable.
