Toilet Replacement Program officially unveiled in City of WL

The City of Williams Lake is pleased to announce the introduction of its new Toilet Replacement Incentive Program. This program has been designed to assist residents of Williams Lake in replacing their old inefficient toilets with newer low flow toilets. Residents may be able to apply for as much as $200 per fixture on the incentive program. Older toilets can use as much as 20 litres of water per use whereas newer low flow toilets use only 4.8 litres or less, some using as little as 3 litres. As a result, changing only one toilet to a more efficient model can save tens of thousands of litres of water per year. A total of $10,000 is being made available for this program in 2010.

“Council is pleased to offer this program to City residents,” states Councillor Sue Zacharias, Chair of the Development Services and Public Works Portfolio. “It is a step in the right direction in ensuring that the water supply we all enjoy today will be there for many generations to come. Water is one of the most precious resources any municipality can offer its residents. As there are a limited number of toilets that can be applied for at this time, residents who are interested in replacing their old toilets should come in to City Hall with their applications as soon as possible.”

The City of Williams Lake will be implementing the Toilet Replacement Program during the week of October 4th, 2010 with an informational flyer to be delivered to each residence in Williams Lake. If residents do not receive the brochure in their mail box, they may pick one up at City Hall.
