Earlier today, I submitted the following Letter to the Editor on the CRD Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Function to both the Williams Lake Tribune & Cariboo Advisor:
Open Letter to all members of the Central Cariboo Joint Committee:
On Thursday, January 13th – The Joint Committee will receive a report from Darron Campbell (CRD Community Services Manager) which proposes an Service Delivery Contract between the newly established Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society and the Cariboo Regional District. I have no doubt, notwithstanding an eventual “no” vote from Area ‘D’ Director Deb Bischoff, this contract will be recommended for endorsement by both Williams Lake City Council and the CRD Board
After this is done – I publicly call upon the Joint Committee to re-engage residents on the local Arts and Culture Function and the newly formed Arts and Culture Society will which manage the Function. Given I have some concerns about the Society’s activities (adjudication procedures), and concerns having been expressed to the Area ‘D’ and ‘E’ Directors over the Arts and Culture Function at the 2009 and 2010 Town Hall Meetings, the time has come to have a public meeting on this Function, updating the public on what has happened since the last public meeting in November of 2009 on the Arts and Culture Function. This will ensure that residents’ are not divided on this Function – those who support it wholeheartedly and those who still have concerns around the Function and its’ activities
Finally – if Williams Lake Mayor Kerry Cook, Williams Lake City Councillors Laurie Walters, Sue Zacharias, Natalie Hébert & Geoff Bourdon and the current Area ‘F’ Alternate Director believe sincerely that the Arts and Culture Function is the greatest thing since sliced apple pie then they won’t hesitate to meet the public in 2011 on an update to activities occurring with the Arts and Culture Function
