Next Steps for Multi-Centre in Quesnel

From the Rush:

A BIG STEP FORWARD BY THE CARIBOO REGIONAL DISTRICT TODAY TOWARDS POSSIBLY SECURING SOME FUNDING FOR A NEW MULTI-CENTRE IN QUESNEL.

THE C-R-D ENDORSED AN APPLICATION TO THE NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE TRUST ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM TO THE TUNE OF 4-MILLION DOLLARS.

IF SUCCESSFUL, 2-MILLION WOULD BE IN THE FORM OF A GRANT AND 2-MILLION AS AN INTEREST-FREE LOAN FROM THE NORTH CARIBOO REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACCOUNT.

AREA 'A' DIRECTOR TED ARMSTRONG, VICE-CHAIR OF THE C-R-D, WAS PLEASED WITH TODAY'S VOTE.

FOR HER PART, QUESNEL MAYOR MARY SJOSTROM NOTED THAT IT WAS THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY OF THE C-R-D AND THAT IT SPEAKS VOLUMES TO THE TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP THE CITY AND THE REGIONAL DISTRICT HAVE.

MAYOR SJOSTROM ALSO CAUTIONED HOWEVER THAT THIS IS JUST THE FIRST STEP FORWARD AND THAT THEIR REQUEST STILL HAS TO GO TO N-D-I's REGIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND THEN THE TRUST BOARD WHEN THEY APPEAR AS A DELEGATION IN APRIL.
