Christy Clark announces Justice System measures

Earlier today - BC Premier Christy Clark announces several measures to strengthen BC's Justice System including:

* establishment of new Ministry of Justice
* challenging groups in the legal world to find better ways of doing things in the justice system without necessary putting more money into the system and;

* Looking into the possibility of allowing RCMP to directly lay charges

Editor's Note - this idea leaves me, as one BC resident, really nervous as mistakes could be made and there would be no oversight.  No - I think the present system works just fine... police investigate and report to a civilian body (Crown Counsel) as to whether or not someone should be charged with a crime or not...

RCMP laying charges was done in Alta....bad idea. Tons of charges, lots died in the courtroom due to improper filing, etc. Ties up the court system even more with things making it to a venue when they shoudnt.

John Cummins has called for police in BC to have charge approval. If the change goes through it will remove a plank from the platform of the BC Conservative party.
