Update #5 - Puntzi Lake Wildfire

Courtesy of the BC Wildfire Service:

The Puntzi Lake Wildfire burning on the north side of Puntzi Lake, approximately 130 kilometres from Williams Lake is currently exhibiting aggressive fire behaviour. Increased fire activity in yesterday's operational period and overnight, has led to an expansion of the fire perimeter. The fire is now estimated at 7,000 hectares in size.
Fire behaviour on the fireline is currently Rank 4 and Rank 5. This type of fire behaviour represents a highly vigorous surface fire that consumes timber up to the crown and has the potential for long range spotting ahead of the fire front. Crews today are working to establish containment lines on the east side of the fire and to further protect values.

Due to the recent growth on the fire, the Cariboo Regional District has expanded their Evacuation Order and Alert. For more details and updated maps please visit the Cariboo
Regional District's Emergency Operations Facebook page at: CRD Emergency Operations

Forest and grass fuels in the Cariboo Fire Centre are very dry and the fire risk is serious. The BC Wildfire Service is urging members of the public to use extreme caution when they're in the backcountry. New fires may start easily, burn vigorously and challenge fire suppression efforts.
