Roe Lake Rec Commission gets Prov $$$

Courtesy of the BC Government:

The Roe Lake and District Recreation Commission is getting its filing system updated, developing a marketing plan for weddings, conferences and events, and giving one person work experience in office administration, thanks to more than more than $10,000 in provincial Community and Employer Partnership funding.

Over the course of one year, the individual will receive work experience in general office administration, create a filing system for the recreation commission, a lease agreement for the community hall, as well as a maintenance manual for the Interlakes Community Center. A marketing package for the hall for weddings, events and conferences will also be part of the work experience project, along with options for more seniors programming. The project wraps up in June 2016.

This Job Creation Partnership is funded through the Community and Employer Partnerships program, which was introduced in April 2012 as part of the Employment Program of BC.

Government is taking action to address the rapidly changing labour market. Government created the B.C. Skills for Jobs Blueprint to ensure more British Columbians have the skills they need to be first in line for in-demand jobs in B.C.’s diverse, strong and growing economy.

The Community and Employer Partnerships program is featured in B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint and provides more support to people who are struggling to gain a foothold in the job market. It helps build stronger partnerships with industry and labour to connect British Columbians with classroom and on-the-job training, while making it easier for employers to hire the skilled workers they need – when and where they need them.

To date, the program has helped more than 800 job seekers benefit from work experience and funded nearly 180 projects throughout the province.

The Hon. Michelle Stilwell - BC's Minister of Social Development/Innovation says

“Job Creation Partnerships create such a wealth of work experience for the people who benefit from them, preparing them for a fulfilling career in a related field. This office administration position is giving Sheila Williams valuable skills that will go a long way to preparing her for a good job.”

While Donna Barnett - MLA for Cariboo-Chilcotin stated:

“The Roe Lake and District Recreation Commission and the Interlakes community will benefit so much from this Job Creation Partnership. Not only will there be more programming for seniors, but the community will benefit from a marketing plan that will help bring events, weddings and conferences to the Interlakes area.”

Finally - Wendy Chase, President of the Interlakes Community Association/Chair of the Roe Lake & District Recreation Commission commented:

“The funding provided by the Job Creation Partnership will assist our association with a complete and comprehensive administrative system. This opportunity will enable us to establish a strong foundation and to plan and organize for future programs and services that will be available to the residents in our community. Roe Lake and District Recreation Commission relies heavily on the contributions of its volunteers. As volunteers, we can now spend our time doing activities in the community knowing that the information obtained will be kept in a centralized location.”
