For those affected by flooding this summer, there is less than a week left to apply for Disaster Financial Assistance from the provincial government. Residents are also encouraged to connect with the CRD’s recovery manager, who remains active in the Big Creek community and is able to answer questions and connect people with available supports and programs.
Those impacted by overland flooding in any area of the Cariboo Regional District or Tsilhqot’in National Government may be eligible for Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA). The eligible flooding event was between July 6-18, 2019 and affected residents in any areas of the CRD are encouraged to apply. DFA is available to homeowners, residential tenants, small business owners, farmers, charitable organizations and local governments that were unable to obtain insurance to cover their disaster-related losses.
DFA applications need to be submitted to Emergency Management BC by Oct. 16, 2019. Find more information and applications at www.gov.bc.ca/disasterfinancialassistance.
The CRD’s recovery manager continues to connect with residents in the Big Creek area and other affected areas since the flooding in July. The recovery manager is working alongside a community recovery coordinator to ensure that local knowledge is incorporated into the CRD’s recovery plan and advocacy.
Residents are encouraged to contact the recovery manager with questions about available programs and to report their unmet needs. The recovery manager also provides support for applications, connects people with services and advocates for unmet needs in the community.
