Williams Lake businesses will be seeing a 50% reduction in their business license fees for 2021.
At its regular meeting on January 12, 2021, City of Williams Lake Council unanimously passed a resolution authorizing a reduction in Williams Lake business license fees for 2021 by 50%, at an approximate cost of $75,000, to be allocated from the City's COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant funding.
This decision will cover all of the City’s 41 business license classifications, including manufacturing, cannabis, liquor license, financial institution and retail, and will benefit approximately 1000 license holders.
Businesses that paid their business license fees for 2021 prior to the announcement will be given a credit on their accounts toward next year’s fees.
“We are doing what we can to assist businesses during these extremely challenging times,” said Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb. “We know everyone is struggling, and hopefully the reduction in business licensing fees will help alleviate some of the stress.”
Williams Lake City Councillor Scott Nelson - Finance Committee Chair, said, “the City is committed to allocating the COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant funding in an effective, responsive manner, to help our community get through this unprecedented situation. Our businesses are the backbone of our community, and we are putting measures in place to help out in these tough times.”
