NDP MP leaves for Federal Liberals...

In a shocker (my opinion) - former NDP MP Lise St-Denis from St. Maurice-Champlain (former riding of Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien) has defected to the Federal Liberals - see the story from CBC here

And the reason I say it's a shocker is it has been only just over 7 months since the last election - defecting from one political party to another so soon after a general election is unheard of and especially going from Official Opposition to the "Third Party" in the House of Commons.  It has been done before from Opposition to Government though (case in point - Belinda Stronach from then-Conservative Opposition to Federal Liberals)

Meanwhile - the Federal NDP Caucus Chair Guy Caron said this, in response to Ms. St-Denis's move:

"Changing political affiliation is a blatant lack of respect for democracy. It encourages cynicism toward politicians," Caron said.

"Quebec voters rejected the Liberals and voted for the NDP."

"Honestly, if the Liberals really feel that strongly about what she can contribute, we challenge them to launch a byelection where she will be able to bring the Liberal ideas, will be able to bring the values and put the work of the NDP to the test of the electors."

While a Federal Conservative supporter - on this topic, I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Caron... and his comments above
