WL News - Jan 10th edition

1) Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett discusses property assessment/grants in her weekly column - read here.  Editor's Note - a reminder that you have until January 31st to challenge (appeal) your BC Assessment "Property Assessment Statement" - details as to how should have been included with your Property Assessment Statement.  If not - go to the BC Assessment website here

2) Local Teachers' Association head (Joan Erb) says teachers' will not assist with FSA tests - read here

3) WL Secondary has installed its' solar wall - read here

Elsewhere in BC:

Prince George - PG City Councillor Garth Frizzell explains his no vote to allow expanded alcohol sales at the local CN Centre - read here.  An excellent explanation as to why he voted no and another example of how local politicians use online resources to explain their votes, especially on controversial items.  And something, had I been elected, would have done here for all items before WL Council

Kamloops - As I do here for local gov't business in the Cariboo-Chilcotin, Kamloops Councillor Arjun Singh looks at business at today's Kamloops Council meeting - the first one in 2012 - read here.  Also - local BC Conservative Regional Director (and yes, my uncle) Alan Forseth addresses  yesterday's Bob Simpson comment re: controversial open letter from Federal Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver - read here but I will say that my uncle speaks for me in the comments from Bob Simpson

Metro Vancouver - Jordan Bateman of the Canadian Taxpayers' Federation says 1/3 tax free yearly salary for local officials (Mayors, Councillors, School Trustees and Electoral Area Directors') needs to go today - read that posting here.  While I don't expect to see local politicians taking this up themselves... my question to readers - should Victoria eliminate this "perk" as Mr. Bateman suggests??

Have a great day!
