This afternoon - Imperial Metals President Brian Kynoch led a press conference with regard to the Mount Polley Tailings Pond Dam breach which occurred yesterday morning
He first apologized for the incident and stated that Imperial Metals takes responsibility for this incident. He also stated that water quality is approaching provincially-regulated water quality standards. Mr. Kynoch also requested the public to not approach Hazletine Creek at this time. In addition, Mr. Kynoch claims that the tailings pond has never breeched
He finally thanked for all involved for their hard work at this time...
During question period - Mr. Kynoch appeared to be "standoffish" with locals and media on their questions. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties at Likely, I was not able to listen to the full press conference but based on what I heard, I thought that Mr. Kynoch did not handle the press conference as well as he could
Finally - I think the 3pm press conference gave us a small peek into what the 4pm community meeting will be like...
