Evac ALERT lifted for Green Acres Mobile Home Park

The City of Williams Lake has lifted the evacuation alert for Green Acres Mobile Home Park, effective today.
The decision follows a geotechnical assessment of the area, which determined the recent flooding no longer posed an imminent risk to residents. The residents have been under alert for the past two weeks after the City declared a State of Emergency for Frizzi Road and the River Valley, due to high river flows that washed out roads, made at least 16 bridges impassable and ruptured a City sewer pipe.
An evacuation order remains in effect for 11 industrial properties on Frizzi Road, while the River Valley Trail is still closed to the public at this time. The City has also extended the State of Local Emergency for another seven days.
Contractors continue to work on rebuilding roads, stabilize slopes in the River Valley and repair the ruptured sewer pipe. Earlier this week, contractors were successful in installing a temporary bridge to gain access to the City’s Sewage Treatment Lagoons, where they installed a temporary pump to stop the flow of partially treated effluent into the river. As of Tuesday, only treated sewage is being released.
The new pump means residents can return to normal water use, but are asked not to be excessive as the pump can handle only so much volume.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
