May 2020 is "FireSmart" month in Quesnel/area

During the month of May, the City of Quesnel’s Forestry Initiatives Program is encouraging residents to participate in FireSmart Awareness Month.
FireSmart Awareness Month is designed to bring awareness and highlight the importance of FireSmart-ing homes and properties. The FireSmart Program helps property owners reduce the risk of wildfire damage to their home and property as well as their surrounding neighbours. It’s essential to be proactive in reducing the risk of wildfire damage to property. Whether doing regular yard maintenance or making large scale changes during renovations or landscaping, residents can make choices that will help protect their home from wildfire.
Residents can enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card to a local building supply store by completing the City’s FireSmart Community Survey, or sharing their FireSmart project to our photo contest!
The Survey will give the FireSmart team valuable information about Quesnel’s FireSmart awareness and interest in FireSmart home assessments, as well as help identify ways for the team to support the community. The survey is open until May 31, 2020 bit.ly/2VOJ2ZE. Paper copies of the survey are available by mail. Please contact City Hall at 250-992-2111 or email  to request your copy.
To submit your project photo to the photo contest, email before and after picture(s) to:  by May 31, 2020.
The City’s Forest Initiatives Program was created to address the multiple challenges facing our community - mainly protecting our communities from wildfire. Learn more: www.quesnel.ca/forestry-initiatives-program
