WL Council Highlights - May 19th mtg

Present: Mayor Cobb; Councillors Bonnell, Boehm, Brenner, Nelson, Ryll and Smith

Meeting called to order at 6:00pm

Meeting Agenda adopted and Minutes of the City Council meeting held on May 5th, 2020 were received/adopted

Business:

1) Council received for information the accounts payable computer cheque and EFT listings dated May 7, 8 and 14, 2020

2) Council approved Development Permit #1-2020 for property at 548 Mackenzie Avenue South & 272 Fifth Avenue South (New Commercial Building & Sidewalk Width Variance)

3) Council approved Development Variance Permit #01-2020 for property at 1533 Highway 97 South

4) Council received a report of the Corporate Officer and the Legislative Services Coordinator in regards to a plan for Re-Opening of Council Meetings to the Public and directed Staff to proceed with Open Council Meetings commencing in early June as outlined in the Staff report

5) Council authorized up to $15,000 from the Information Technology budget to upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure and sound equipment in Council Chambers, including the purchase of new microphones, to enhance the City's conferencing abilities.

6) Council awarded the Sanitary Sewer System Modeling & Analysis contract to GeoAdvice Engineering for a total quoted amount of $91,659, excluding GST, for a total project value of $132,659 with contingency and software purchase

7) Council awarded the Pavement Marking 2020 contract to Yellowhead Pavement Marking Inc. for a tender total of $98,283.78, excluding GST

8) Council authorized submission of applications to the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association’s ‘Tourism Development Grant’ program for up to $9,000 toward a bike wash station to be located at the Tourism Discovery Centre, and up to $35,000 toward electrical works for the installation of power supply and lighting of the Nekw7usem (Nek-woo-sum) Bridge on the RC Cotton pedestrian trail

9) Council received a letter from Pacific Coastal Airlines advising of resumption of scheduled service on June 1, 2020, with modified service levels and additional safety measures in place

10) Council proclaimed June 1-7, 2020 as "Child and Youth in Care Week" in the City of Williams Lake

11) Late Item -- Council proclaimed May 17-23, 2020 as "National Public Works Week" in the City of Williams Lake

12) Council received the 'Council Information Package' as of May 19th, 2020 and a letter be forwarded to the City of Nanaimo supporting them in their request to BC's Attorney-General in making liquor licensing rules more flexible

CAO MacDonald provided Council with an update in regards to the City's continuing response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Members of Council provided verbal reports on their recent activities
