Program Coordinator, Rose Scott, introduced the current Ambassadors and the 2021 Candidates. The participants expressed the value of the Quesnel Ambassador Leadership Program, both to personal growth and community participation.

2024 BC Games Bid – Update

All requirements were met for the City of Quesnel to submit a bid for the 2024 BC Games. The City anticipates notification by the fall of 2021. The City would like to thank all of our community partners willing to bring the BC Games to Quesnel!

 

Community Forest Planning Meeting

Quesnel has entered into a Partnership Agreement with Lhtako Dene Nation, Lhoosk’uz Dene Nation, Nazko First Nation and ?Esdilagh First Nation. A planning meeting was held on March 17th to determine mutually agreeable community forest values.

 

Sprout Kitchen Regional Food Hub Operating & Sub-Lease Agreements

Council approved an operating agreement and sub-lease agreement between the City of Quesnel and Sprout Kitchen Society to run the Food Hub at 101 Marsh Drive.


Sprout Kitchen, a member of the BC Food Hub Network, will be a small-scale food processing and innovation hub that serves the North Cariboo Food Hub Region, providing space and support for emerging and existing food entrepreneurs. Sprout Kitchen is an initiative of the City of Quesnel with generous support from the Province of British Columbia and Northern Development Initiative Trust.

Lhtako Dene Fire Protection Agreement Renewal

Council approved renewal of the Lhtako Dene Nation Fire Protection Agreement, as recommended by Staff.

 

3-Digit National Suicide Hotline

Council passed a resolution of support for a Federal 988 crisis line initiative, to consolidate all suicide crisis numbers into one easy to remember three-digit hot-line that is accessible to all Canadians.

Provincial Request for the Timeline of Casinos to Reopen

Quesnel was one of 12 Local Governments that endorsed a letter to Premier Horgan requesting a plan to safely reopen Casinos in the province.

 

Barkerville Historic Town

Quesnel, in addition to other area Local Governments, endorsed a letter to Premier Horgan requesting additional funding for Barkerville Historic Town to account for a budget shortfall that will affect opening as anticipated. Given the draw on tourism and the benefit to our region, a provincial funding contribution will ensure Barkerville’s successful 2021 opening and positive restart to local tourism economy.
