Updated Public Health Order allows Public Attendance at WL City Council Meetings

Courtesy of the City of Williams Lake:

Effective June 15, 2021, the Public Health Order on gatherings and events has now removed the restriction on members of the public attending Council meetings. Public Council and Committee meetings are once again open to in-person attendance starting immediately.

The Regular Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 22, 2021 will be the next regular meeting that will be open to public attendance. Under the second step of the Province’s reopening plan, physical distancing and mask wearing at indoor gatherings must still be followed. Similar to the City’s practice last Fall, seating will be limited in the Chambers gallery. In addition to in-person access, meetings will continue to be live streamed on the City’s YouTube channel.

“This change is a significant step in the right direction to reconnecting in person and making City processes more open to the public,” said Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb. “We have been happy to have our meetings live streamed to encourage continued open and transparent meetings, but we are certainly looking forward to seeing people in the gallery once again.”

During restricted public access, the City took a number of steps to remain open and transparent, including live streaming both Council and Committee of Whole Council meetings, holding virtual public hearings, and making arrangements for delegations to attend meetings via electronic means.

As the COVID-19 situation in British Columbia is continually evolving, the City will adapt its response and level of service to meet the requirements of both Interior Health and the Province.
