BC Wildfire Service is planning to burn piles of woody debris on the western slope of Dragon Mountain.

Courtesy of the BC Wildfire Service:

Smoke and flames may be visible from Hwy 97 and surrounding communities.

Crews have been piling this debris as part of an ongoing fuel management project in partnership with BC Parks and the City of Quesnel. These piles will now be burned in order to eliminate available fuels in the event of a wildfire.

Burning could begin as soon as Monday, June 14, 2021 and continue periodically until as late as June 25, 2021. Burning will only occur on days when conditions are favourable and will allow for proper venting and quick smoke dissipation. BC Wildfire Service personnel will be on-site and monitoring these fires.

Anyone who lights an open fire must comply with B.C.’s air quality control legislation. The legislation requires individuals to check local venting prior to lighting a fire and ensure that conditions are favourable for burning. If conditions are rated “poor” or “fair” in their area, open burning is restricted. Local venting conditions can be obtained by calling 1 888 281-2992 or visiting: http://ow.ly/76gW30lRlNN

To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone. For the latest information on current wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air quality advisories, visit www.bcwildfire.ca
