“We
are certainly not at the end of wildfire season and continued caution and
vigilance are needed as much as ever,” notes Cariboo Regional District Board Chair Margo Wagner. “But the
lifting of these evacuation orders this week was welcome news nonetheless. If
we can get through to the fall without further losses in our region, I think
the whole Cariboo-Chilcotin will be breathing a big sigh of relief. We owe a huge debt of
gratitude to the firefighters both volunteer and paid, search and rescue, the
ESS volunteers, the citizens who stepped up to help those in need, and the
community as a whole; for the successes and support we have had battling
wildfires in the Cariboo-Chilcotin this summer.”
The
first wildfire alert of the season was issued at the end of June. Since that
time 13 evacuation orders impacting an estimated 2650 people were issued.
Thirty-eight evacuation alerts have been issued to date in the region. For more
