Cariboo RD institutes COVID-19 vaccine requirement for its' employees

Courtesy of the Cariboo Regional District:

The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) recognizes the public health benefits of vaccination programs in reducing illness, disability, and death from community-acquired diseases and supports public health messaging about the importance of vaccines against communicable diseases. Consequently, the Cariboo Regional District is instituting a policy requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19. Proof of vaccination must be provided to the Human Resources Department by January 17, 2022.

The policy will require all employees (CRD and CRD Libraries), volunteer firefighters and other CRD volunteers to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Sitting CRD board members, alternates, and committee appointees attending meetings on CRD property will also be subject to the vaccine requirement. Those who cannot be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 because of a bona fide medical reason may request a medical exemption. Personal and philosophical reasons for opposition to this vaccine, or vaccinations in general, will not constitute a valid reason for exemption. Requests of this nature will be denied.

The Cariboo Regional District accepts that this decision will be criticized. The CRD considered legal, medical and privacy concerns and sought expert advice before deciding on the policy. Employee and volunteer safety as well as public health best practices were the primary criteria used in arriving at this measure.
