The City of Williams Lake continues to see positive improvements in its efforts to reduce water levels at the site of a historic beaver dam high above Juniper Street off South Lakeside Drive.
On June 2, 2022 the City activated its Emergency Operations Centre at Level 1 (low risk) in response to an increased water load at the site.
At this time, the water level has been reduced by approximately two feet, with the controlled release ongoing until it is no longer determined to pose a risk.
Today, June 6, the City, working with contractors, plans to add an additional siphon to the dam site in order to increase its capacity to safely reduce water levels.
The City and contractors will continue to monitor the site and water levels from its Emergency Operations Centre and the City will provide updates as necessary.
The State of Local Emergency, meanwhile, is ongoing to authorize City staff and contractors to access private property and other resources as needed.
