On June 2, 2022, the City of Williams Lake activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at Level 1 (low risk) in response to an identified increased water load at a historic beaver dam site high above Juniper Street off South Lakeside Drive.
At this time, the water level has been reduced by approximately six inches, with the controlled release ongoing until it is no longer determined to pose a risk.
“I am pleased that we were able to quickly assess and mobilize a response to this possible flood risk, “ said City of Williams Lake Chief Administrative Officer and EOC Director Gary Muraca. “I would like to thank Quality Excavating & Construction and TRUE Consulting for their assistance and quick response during this event, as well as the City’s Emergency Operations support staff and Emergency Support Services. We will continue to address the water levels into next week, and anticipate this will put us in a position to begin the recovery stage.”
The State of Local Emergency will continue for the remainder of the week to authorize City staff and contractors to access private property and other resources as needed.
The City of Williams Lake will continue to monitor the situation from its Emergency Operations Centre and will provide updates as they are available.
