The City of Williams Lake will recognize a federal statutory holiday created to mark the date of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
The national holiday was announced Tuesday, September 13th by the Federal Government and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and will take place on Monday, September 19th, 2022 – the date of her funeral in London, U.K. - and will be an opportunity for Canadians to mourn the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who died last week on Thursday, September 8th.
The City of Williams Lake and International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 882-B Collective Agreement recognizes all Federal, Provincial and Municipal holidays. The Prime Minister said the Federal Government is now working with Canada’s provinces and territories to create alignment.
As a result of the new holiday, City Hall, Public Works operations and the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex will be closed on Monday, September 19th, 2022.
