Fluoride consultation gets off to rocky start (Updated)

Today, all residents in Williams Lake should get, in their Fall/Winter Activity Guide, a little card discussing the future direction on flouride in the City's water system & a few facts around putting fluoride in the City of Williams Lake water system.  The card will tell you to go to http://www.williamslake.ca/fluoride or email the City at fluoride@williamslake.ca

One thing though - the City of Williams Lake has established its own Facebook page for discussing this topic and any other.  As of 60 mins ago - the Facebook page is not functioning.  I've advised the City's Communication Coordinator of same but as of yet, I haven't received a response.

Hopefully - the City will fix the Facebook page issue ASAP so the online debate can commence.

One other thing I'm disappointed about - the City continues to waffle on the issue on how a decision will be arrived at to terminate putting fluoride in the water system - either referendum or permission from the provincial Health Minister.  The City, through Council, should quit stalling and just say there will be a vote or it'll go to the Minister for approval.  At least - everyone would know where the City should, instead of the apperance of indecision by Council.

If a bylaw to authorize fluoride in the City's water system was decided, by the community, via referendum, then a decision to discontinue putting fluoride in the local water system must be via referendum as well

Update (Monday, August 22nd) - Ken MacInnis (City of WL Communications Coordinator) says that the Facebook page for the City of Williams Lake has been placed "offline" until the launch of the new City of Williams Lake website but no date has been announced or confirmed with respect to this

Another mess up by City Hall....there needs to be some changes their immediately. I know it would cost a lot to move Carruthers along so put him back into the position of Director of Community Services...Payton who is equally ineffective can be moved out at little cost and then we can hire a real City Manager.
Why is it that us taxpayers are paying for Brian Carruthers to go to school to learn how to be a City Administrator..that is not professional developement that is educating and I personally think he should have had those criteria before he took the position of CAO. He had done a horrible job of running this city. The firehall, the UBCM Tourism grant, the webpage, the financial report, the annual report debacle are just a feww examples.
I challenge Mayoue Cook and COuncil to address this issue and to stop being subjective when it comes to our CAO.
