3 Major Items Coming Forward at Tuesday's WL Council Meeting

1) South Lakeside Drive Improvements - Engineering Work (bottom of Hodgson Rd to Pioneer Way - road going up to Wal-Mart Site) - see City Staff report here.  Note - if this is approved and the engineering work is done, paving is scheduled to be completed in 2012, although the next Council as part of a "budget restraint" program could delay the paving for this project in 2012 - if they so choose as part of a 2012 Budget and 2012-2016 5 Year Financial Plan

2) Updating at Dog and Suds Restaurant - see City Staff Report here and here.  If both the Development and Development Variance Permits are approved (WL Council to formally consider this item at the September 14th WL Council meeting) then the applicant proposes that this project proceed in late September

3) Committee of the Whole has recommended a request for the local Legion for 100% tax exemption be forwarded to the 2012 Budget Process.  See the City Staff report here.  Question - should the local Royal Canadian Legion get a 100% tax exemption, like Salmon Arm gives their local Legion, or should our local Legion continue to apply for their usual property tax exemption...?

What's this budget restraint stuff you're going on about? Is that your idea or someone else's?

South Lakeside needs to be paved badly.

Thanks for your comments...

The Budget Restraint idea is my own and I can see how the next Council, at least initially, will not want to do a lot of spending, given the situation of personal finances for each household, the high long-term debt load and the fact that the City's union contract is up in 2012. Also - I would point you to a recent poll I ran which suggest that residents, 3to 1, who want maintained or less spending at WL City Hall

Also - I'm aware of the need to pave South Lakeside but residents on Pinchbeck Avenue and 7th Avenue have also waited (money is available) to have paved streets and it hasn't been done to date. Pinchbeck has been on the "to-do" list, going back to 2003 and 7th Ave has been on the same "to-do" list since 2006 (again - local money to assist paving 7th Ave is available until 2013)

I understand that a Senior Bylaw Officer has been hired

And although I didn't put it in this blog post - Council will be (subject to a last minute decision) adopted two bylaw amendments for noise/nuisance issues at apartment buildings and duplexes to help assist in the appropriate use of RCMP resources

Steve..referring to your "polls" which get responses from 10-15 people, most of whom who likely share your viewpoints (or they would not read your blog) is FAR from scientific.
I chuckle every time you do it as it just looks and sounds horrible, and pointing to a meaningless poll just feeds your detractors.
