In the Vancouver Sun, Civic Affairs Columnist Jeff Lee reviews a recently released report by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business which states that many muncipalities have out of control spending which outstrips inflationary pressures many times over - see his article here
See the CFIB Report here. Note, the CFIB notes that we in Williams Lake have the 4th highest per capita spending in 2008 with a population of 10,000 - 25,000. Meanwhile, Quesnel ranked 3rd in the same category with 5,000 - 10,000 population

Fiscal Sustainabilty Gap from 2000-2008 - 3.94 (394% faster than population and inflation growth)

If above excess spending had been eliminated, a family of 4 would have saved - $1,489

Population & Inflation Growth from 2000-2008 - 7.8%
Fiscal Sustainabilty Gap from 2000-2008 - 6.83 (683% faster than population and inflation growth)
Excess Spending in 2008 - $5,460,540
If above excess spending had been eliminated, a family of 4 would have saved - $2,283
Note - the CFIB states the following with regard to 100 Mile House:
Operation Expense Growth from 2000-2008 - 31.83%
Population & Inflation Growth from 2000-2008 - 19.45%
Fiscal Sustainabilty Gap from 2000-2008 - 1.64 (164% faster than population and inflation growth)
Excess Spending in 2008 - $358,351
If above excess spending had been eliminated, a family of 4 would have saved - $742
