At today's Central Cariboo Rural Caucus meeting - the Rural Caucus agreed to send a letter to the City of Williams Lake advising that, for the foreseeable future, regular meetings of the Central Cariboo Joint Committee will be 'suspended' to allow the Cariboo Regional District to focus its' energies to resolving the Rural Fringe Fire Protection issue. The letter will enunciate that this is not a 'retaliatory' measure but a temporary measure to allow the Regional District to focus on resolving the Rural Fringe Fire Protection file and then regular meetings of the Joint Committee can once again resume. Meetings of the Joint Committee will occur for emergency or time-sensitive matters
I imagine WL City Council will be disappointed to learn this however there is little that they can do as Joint Committee requires that CRD/City of WL Council both be present for an official meeting to take place
For myself - I was saddened to see the move and this was a move I wasn't expecting and I believe that this move will not help, in the short term, the relationship between the Central Cariboo CRD Directors' and WL Council. Especially considering the issues that still have to be dealt with in 2013 including:
1) Pool Task Force report and future actions from that report
2) Renew the Management Contract between City of WL/CRD for the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex
3) Renew the Memo of Understanding between CRD/City of WL for agreed upon services within the MOU
