WL Council Inaugural Mtg (2014-18 Term) - Dec 2nd

Present -- Mayor-elect W. L. Cobb; Councillors-elect I. N. Bonnell, S. D. Nelson, J. Ryll, C. Smith, L.T. Walters and S.J. Zacharias

Meeting called to order at 6:04pm by the City Manager

The City Manager welcomed everyone in attendance

The following individuals took their Oath of Office/Allegiance - conducted by D. Garceau, City Manager:

Father Derrick Cameron of Sacred Heart Catholic Church was then called upon by Mayor Cobb to give the Invocation/Blessing upon Williams Lake City Council

The Mayor's Chain of Office was then transferred from outgoing Mayor Kerry Cook to new Mayor Walt Cobb

Mayor Cobb presented a gift of appreciation to Kerry Cook for her 6 years of service as Mayor of Williams Lake

Councillor Laurie Walters presented a gift of appreciation to Geoff Bourdon for his 6 years of service as a Williams Lake City Councillor

Councillor Sue Zacharias presented a gift of appreciation to Danica Hughes for her 3 years of service as a Williams Lake City Councillor

Councillor Ivan Bonnell presented a gift of appreciation to Surinderpal Rathor for his 21 years of service as a Williams Lake City Councillor

Mr. Rathor was given a standing ovation by all in attendance after his presentation from Councillor Bonnell

c) Council received for information the report of the Manager of Legislative Services concerning the appointments of Mayor Walt Cobb for Council appointments to Committees, Standing Committees, Ad Hoc/Select Committees and Community Committees for the 2014/2015 term

d) Pursuant to Section 784 of the Local Government Act, Council appointed Mayor Walt Cobb to the Cariboo Regional District Board as the City of Williams Lake Director for 2014/2015 and further pursuant to Section 786 of the Local Government Act, Council appointed Councillor Ivan Bonnell as the City's Alternate Director to the CRD Board of Directors.

e) Mayor Walt Cobb was appointed to the Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition Board as the City's Director for 2014/2015 and Councillor Sue Zacharias be appointed as the City's Alternate Director

f) Mayor Walt Cobb was appointed to the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) Regional Advisory Board as the City's Director for 2014/2015 and Councillor Craig Smith be appointed as the City's Alternate Director.

g) Council proclaimed Friday, January 2, 2014 as "Wrestling Day" in the City of Williams Lake, pursuant to City of Williams Lake Policy No. 115.

Meeting adjourned at 7:05pm and refreshments were then served in the City Hall Foyer

Congrats to all, and thank you to the outgoing officials for your years of service to our community.

On another note, it is quite sad and rather disturbing that there was no First Nations blessing and recognition of traditional lands included, yet a Catholic blessing took place? This says a lot to me about how this Mayor and Council shows, or doesn't show, their respect.

As of this writing and of Fri Dec 6th at 4:30pm - there is no final decision in the case of DeGagne v Williams Lake (City)
